Tips for Recruitment for Your Conference

1. If allowed, have your local High School and Junior High School/Middle School distribute copies you provide of the In Their Shoes flyer to all girls in 6th through 12th grades. If the school will not distribute the flyer to each girl, ask if there is a school bulletin board where you could pin an In Their Shoes Poster. Before posting, be sure to crease the top of the tear tab section and then cut to separate each tab to make for easier tearing. If the poster is permitted, check back often and replace the poster once all twelve Information Tear Tabs have been taken.

2. If permitted, set up and man a table in the lunch room during lunch hours at the middle and high school to promote your event. Hand out flyers and display the conference bag, t-shirt, and charm bracelet.

3. Set up an appointment with the school guidance counselor. Explain what your conference is all about and offer to provide copies of the Flyer for them to distribute if they believe it would be helpful to teen girls they have counseled.

4. Call every church in your school district and ask for the name and contact information for  for the name and contact information for their Youth Pastor/Teacher. If a church does not have a Youth Pastor/Teacher, ask for the Senior Pastor. It is important to actually talk to someone instead of just emailing a digital copies of the In Their Shoes Flyer and Poster and asking for them to pass out or post. If the church will distribute the Flyer to their teen girls, ask how many copies they need. You should also let them know any volunteers from their church to help at the conference would be greatly appreciated. This gesture makes your conference a true “non-denomination” event.

5. In an effort to target troubled teens who are “in the system,” make contact with your county children services department and county juvenile probation department. Explain what your conference is all about and offer to provide copies of the Flyer for them to distribute as they believe would be helpful to teen girls under their care.

6. Utilize social media. Post a picture of the In Their Shoes Flyer on your church Facebook page with a link to the In Their Shoes website. Ask your church members to share the post to their personal page.

7. Although teens do not typically read local newspapers or publications, their parents do. We believe when parents learn about our conference, they will want their teen girls to attend. Be sure to direct readers of any publications you may use to our website for registering their daughters. You may also want to post In Their Shoes Posters on bulletin boards in grocery stores, libraries, or any business that will permit. Before posting, be sure to crease the top of the tear tab section and then cut to separate each tab to make for easier tearing. If the poster is permitted, check back often and replace the poster once all twelve Information Tear Tabs have been taken.
